Moderator

The next batch of the Water: A California Story slide show images are underway. This time I am the Flickr group moderator and I have the privilege of recruiting people to the group, commenting on others' images and ultimately assisting in the selection of the final slide show images. It's very exciting and I cannot wait until I get to go down to the museum and start the final edit. This is such a wonderful opportunity for me! I am beyond excited! :)

Lake Hodges: From March to June

In March, the water covered a lot of the area close to my tree, I couldn't get near it or I would sink into the mud
...

In June, the water has receded way back reveling a little "beach" like area and I can walk up to my tree now!

Placing at the Del Mar Fair

A classmate of mine went down to the fair today and viewed our images that we submitted. She informed me that both of my images placed, one first place and one third place. Every entry get a place between first and fourth place. I submitted both of my images from Donna's Intermediate Black and White class, one from the Macro Assignment and the other from my Story Telling Assignment. The macro shot (print size: 11x14, mounted on a 16x20 board) placed first. The image is a close-up shot of a peacock feather. The other image was part of the Mexico series, an environmental portrait of a woman named Esperanza and her three year old daughter Maella. The print itself is a little larger than a 5x7 and is also mounted on a 16x20 board. This image was awarded third place. I am very excited to go down to the fair and see them hanging on the walls. :)

San Diego Natural History Museum

Since being a member of the online FLICKR community, I have been given many compliments and of course constructive criticism that has helped and inspired me in my photography. This afternoon, I received an e-mail from Michael Field, the Exhibit Designer of the San Diego Natural History Museum. He is also the administrator for a group on FLICKR that I belong to called Water: A California History.

Group description:
"Join the San Diego Natural History Museum’s Water: A California Story photo group. This group will serve as an online gallery celebrating California’s precious water resources. The Museum will present a digital slide show of selected images in our Water: A California Story exhibit. Photographers will be notified if their images are selected for display. Be sure to bring your friends and family to the Museum to see your selected photos on exhibit!"

He chose two images that I had uploaded to the group and these two images will be on a digital slide show at the museum gallery. I am so excited! Both images that were chosen were also part of my twelve image final digital portfolio this semester.

The exhibit will open to the public on July 19th, 2008

Del Mar Fair

Palomar College photography students are so amazing and love to show off our talents at the annual Del Mar Fair. This year I have entered in two images, both under Donna as instructor. She helped me choose the images and so we chose one image from the Macro assignment of a Peacock Feather and an image from my photo story and Mexico portfolio titled, "Esperanza y Maella." I'm excited to go and see all the beautiful work done by my fellow students!

Student Art Sale

This year was the first time I have had the opportunity to sell any of my work. I didn't have much time to prepare but I did the best I could with the time that I had. I printed and matted 2-5x7 images of my Waterlily (shot in Balboa Park) and make about 36 note cards with various flower and beach images. I sold 24 of the note cards and both 5x7 prints. It's exciting to know that my work is appreciated. :)

Casita del Pueblo, Uptown Whittier

This month has been an amazing one for my photography. I currently have four images up at the gallery in the Mexican Folk Art Store, Casita del Pueblo in Uptown Whittier. The show is titled, "Mujeres Collective Art Show" with work by some amazing local artists. Most of the work that is displayed are paintings and I was fortunate enough to be one of only two photographers in the show. I chose four images that I shot down in Maneadero, Mexico while on a missions trip with our church group, Pouring Out Hope. There are three images from the most recent trip in April and one from a trip taken in March of last year. These images are of the women and female children of a migrant village in Maneadero. I had the wonderful opportunity to chat with some of these women and find out how they came to live in this village and they told me wonderful stories of their home state Oaxaca. These images represent the beauty and spirit of these amazing women and children. The show will run from May 10th to the first week in June.

Boehm Gallery

I have two images in the Boehm Gallery at Palomar College. I was chosen by my teacher to display these images in the student art show. This was my first gallery my work has ever been in and I am proud to have them displayed for many people to see. :) I have worked so hard this semester and it's amazing to see my work displayed on the gallery walls. I thank all of my photography instructors that have guided me and encouraged me along the way. Both images are pigment prints and they are both window matted and framed.

Ocean

I have been richly inspired by a series that a friend of mine has done at the ocean and I want to start experimenting with shapes and colors at the beach. I hope to one day achieve awesome and inspiring images such as hers. These are two recent photos I have shot.
